Virginia Thumm


Virginia Thumm has worked in the nonprofit sector in New York and Virginia for more than 30 years, expanding the financial capacity of organizations in the arts, education, the environment and social services.

 A veteran of dozens of fundraising campaigns that have met or exceeded their goals, she has personally solicited hundreds of millions of dollars to enhance the mission of nonprofits through the identification and solicitation of new funding sources and the conception and development of new funding opportunities.

Virginia has been a prominent figure in the nonprofit field and has been involved in many regional nonprofit boards. She recently developed the curriculum and served as chief trainer and coach for the Major Gift Officer Certificate program for public media development professionals. Virginia is a longstanding member of the Association of Fundraising Professionals, where she currently serves on the Board and as chair of the Ethics and Mentoring committee. She is an alumnus of the CIVIC Leadership Institute and was recently appointed to the Norfolk Arts and Humanities Commission.

Barbara Hamm Lee

Barbara Hamm Lee is the Executive Producer and Host of Another View, a weekly call in talk show that “discusses today’s issues from an African American perspective.” In addition to her duties for Another View, Barbara has also held the position of Project Director for the National Federation of Community Broadcasters’ African American Public Radio Stations Initiative, consulting with 26 African American public radio stations on compliance, governance, development, programming and community engagement. She has served as Creative Services Officer, Chief Communications Officer, Chief Public Affairs Officer and Chief Community Engagement Officer, all with WHRO Public Media.

Prior to her work with WHRO, Barbara held management positions with Communications Technologies, Inc.; Prince Georges County, Maryland Police Department and Hamm and Fox Communications.

Barbara is currently Chair of the Norfolk Redevelopment and Housing Authority Board of

Commissioners; Vice Chair, YWCA, South Hampton Roads Board of Directors; Chair of the Norfolk Education Foundation Board of Directors; Chair of the Community Advisory Board for Dominion Virginia Power; and board member of Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities (VCIC), Governor’s School for the Arts Foundation Board and Bennett College Alumnae Association.

Barbara has been recognized for her work in the community, including being named by the YWCA-SHR as a 2010 Woman of Distinction; a Woman of Courage, Confidence and Character Award and a Famous Former Girl Scout Award, both from the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast; the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities Humanitarian Award; the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Service Award and the Volunteer of the Year Award, both from the Urban League of Hampton Roads.

A native of Baltimore, Maryland Barbara is married to Maxie Lee, has a daughter, step daughter and a granddaughter, and loves to spend time with family and friends. She is a graduate of Bennett College (Summa Cum Laude), and attends First Baptist Church, Berkley.

Amy Walton

Account Executive

Amy has a multifaceted professional background that includes teaching, curriculum development, writing, speaking, coaching and training, and nonprofit development. As Director of Development and External Affairs for the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA), she was known for her ability to cultivate and steward donor relationships, an effort that generated significant awareness and revenue for the museum’s mission.

Amy has successfully led several Hampton Roads organizations as a president or chair and has served on local non-profit boards. She has presented at numerous conferences and forums, including the Small Museums National Conference, the South Hampton Roads Museums Forum, and regional and state organizations.

A magna cum laude graduate of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Amy holds five distinct certifications in the field of coaching.

Cassandra Howard

Cassandra Howard has worked in the non-profit sector for 8 years. She has been a part of numerous fundraising campaigns, helping to secure millions of dollars for non-profit organizations across the U.S. Since 2014, Cassandra has worked as a fundraising consultant for nonprofit organizations in Education, Public Policy Research, and Christian ministry. 

Cassandra started offering development training programs in 2016. She holds a M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from Indiana University and a B.A. in Communication from the University of Oklahoma. She completed the Atlas Network’s Think Tank Leadership Training Program in 2014.

Sarah Swaim Rostock

Sarah Swaim Rostock has been a long-time volunteer in organizations such as Special Love’s camps for children with cancer and their families as a mentor and counselor, The St. Baldrick’s Foundation serving as a National Ambassador, Head Event Coordinator, guest blogger, shavee being personally responsible for raising $30,000 for pediatric cancer research, and is the Co-Event Organizer for the HR Goes Bald event with the St. Baldrick's Foundation. 

Sarah is a graduate of East Carolina University, Governor’s School for the Arts' Musical Theater Department, and Frank W. Cox High School.
